DESCRITION
In order to hasten South Africa's socioeconomic development, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), a premier organization for scientific and technological research, conducts research, develops, localizes, and disseminates technologies. The organization's efforts support a capable state and industrial development.
ABOUT
Within the Energy Centre of the Smart Places Cluster, the Hydrogen Centre of South African Infrastructure research group has a bursary opportunity through the CSIR. The bursary's objective is to give recipients financial support for their Master's degree programs.
AREAS OF FOCUS
The creation of methanol synthesis catalysts, including the identification of their structural characteristics and the testing of their catalytic activity, will be the main emphasis of the project.
REQUIREMENTS
- An Honours degree in chemistry, applied chemistry or material sciences with background in inorganic chemistry;
- Some hand-on exposure in heterogeneous catalysis research at honours level or catalysts design and with capability to set-up chemical reaction processes;
- Prior knowledge in working with reactor set-up and GC-FID analysis is a high valued advantage;
- Knowledge in characterization techniques such as XRD, BET, SEM and TEM is desirable;
- Effective communication skills (oral, written and presentation);
- Ability to work independently, as well as working in a team;
- Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines;
- Proficiency with MS Office suite and relevant scientific software.
